Major Google Search Update – PDF, Video, and Much More!
Google Search AI Mode gets powerful new upgrades
Today, Google has rolled out major updates to its Search AI Mode. On desktop browsers, you can now ask complex questions about images – a feature that was previously available only on the mobile Google app.
Additionally, “in the coming weeks”, you’ll be able to upload PDF files and ask detailed questions. Google states that AI Mode will analyze your document and cross-reference it with web sources to provide helpful insights, along with prominent links for further research. Support for more file types will roll out “in the months ahead.”
Next up is the Canvas feature, which lets you organize and plan information over multiple sessions using a dynamic side panel. You can refine the output by continuing the conversation with AI. File uploads will be added soon to give the AI more context. Canvas will become available "in the coming weeks" to US users enrolled in AI Mode Labs.
Search Live now supports video input, integrated with Google Lens. Just open Lens in the Google app, tap the Live icon, and ask questions by pointing your camera at something. The AI will respond using visual context. This is rolling out this week in the US for mobile users in the AI Mode Labs experiment.
In Chrome, Lens and AI Mode can help you ask questions about anything visible on your screen, whether it’s a site, a PDF, or other content. Soon, you’ll see a “Ask Google about this page” option in the address bar. After asking, you’ll get an AI Overview, and with “Dive deeper”, you can follow up with more specific queries.
